Introduction
A brief history of CIS
Osaka University COOP International Students(CIS) was established informally as Team of Foreign Students in July,2003 with the assistance of the staffs from the COOP of Osaka University. At that time, there were only 8 members and all of them were from asian countries. With the efforts of the 8 members, a welcome party for the newcomers was organised in July, 2003.
After that first party, a few members left and some new ones joined. At the time of this writing, we have approximately 10 members altogether. With the help of the COOP Gakusei Iinkai, OUIS organised the second function in December, the Winter Party,2003. After 2 consecutive successes, the members decided to turn the Team of Foreign Students into a formal organisation of Osaka University. After a general meeting, the Team of Foreign Students changed to OUIS,Osaka University International Students.
The Objectives
The objectives of CIS are as follows:
- To provide useful information to international students
- To enhance the communication between international students and Japanese students.
- To create an opportunity for international students to interact with the society
- To assist international students in their studies
The Activities
For the time being, we will focus on the following :
- Recruiting new members (both Japanese and international students are welcome!!!)
- Organising parties and gatherings
- Editing "The Guidebook-campus life for international students-"
- Contributing a column in Handai Walker
- Maintaining and updating the CIS homepage
The Organisation
The organisation is fairly simple. And it is very flexible and subject to changes any time without any kinds of notices in advance.
Members are divided into 4 groups, each in charge of an area of the above activities. These groups are:
- Handai Walker - the editor(s) in charge of the column of the OUIS in Handai Walker.
- Web site - the web developer(s) in charge of the maintenance of this web site.
- Guidebook - the editor(s) in charge of adding/removing information into/from the above guidebook.
- Others - a small group of people who are in charge of any other activities not mentioned right above this.
Of course, we have a leader whose job is to link up all the above activities in order to achieve the objectives noted above.
At the time of this writing, we have only approximately 10 members, thus making the above jobs difficult. Therefore, your help is much appreciated and we are sure to be able to have more fun with your help. Please come to join us. ;)

- To learn while helping other international students.
- Have complaints about the parties organised by others? Come here and organise your own! As we are relatively new, we appreciate any new ideas!
- To learn more about the culture/people from other countries through working together. Come on! We all know that talking alone doesnt really help you understand the true culture of a person well enough :)
So it seems that we have come down to one conclusion... hmm... that is to join us and HAVE FUN! Oh! Forgot to mention about this, you are welcome to just come and have a look. We won't tie you down with a rope(although I wish I could :P). So, see you in our next activity!
